Chapters 1-6

I think it is wierd how the views and goals of women in that time period were so different from today. Mrs. Bennet said, "If I can but see one of my daughters happily settled at Netherfield and all the others equally well married, I shall have nothing to wish for." That statement shows that their goals were to marry wealthy, not to succeed on their own as is the goal of most women today....................I think.

While reading Pride & Predjudice I drew a connection between this story and the movie most of you have probally seen, Mean Girls. The way that Miss Bingly is constantly fighting for Darcy and bringing down Elizebeth is much like how Regina feels Cady Heron is a threat for her interest in this boy Aaron Samuels. Also the Bingly sisters are very similiar to the "Plastics" (The popular girl cliq in the film). They both are pretty, from wealthy families, and are constintly gossiping about other people in attempts to make themselves feel that much more admirable. The final aspect that made me draw this connection is the biggest similarity between Regina and Miss Bingly, their fakeness. They both try to suck up to Darcy and Aaron by constintly trying to impress them. For example while in Darcy's library Miss Bingly picks up the 2nd volume of the book he is reading and states, “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book" when we all know that she has little to no interest in the books.
