Its interesting how the mother sees Darcy as superior and a good match, but Elizabeth disagrees and dislikes his pride. "She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me...... You are wasting your time with me." When Darcy is rude, he creates a reputation of pride and bad manners that make a negative impression on Elizabeth.

  1. I agree with your last line, but i think Mrs. Bennet thinks that he is untolerable and glad that Elizabeth does not like him. Even with his money, Mrs. Bennet shows disdain towards him in their meeting. She says to Charlotte that she is glad that Elizabeth doesn't fancy him.

  2. I agree with Cayla. If you remember from the beginning, Mrs. Bennet disliked Darcy because he had "slighted one of her daughters." (pg 8) Elizabeth deserves a guy that will treat her with respect.
